About Nick Swann

Nick Swann is a highly experienced primary school teacher and established private tutor who genuinely has his pupils’ best interests at heart. Since 2007, he has taught over 10,000 private English and maths lessons, mainly for children aged between 8 and 13 in Warminster and the surrounding area. Nick trained at Bath College of Higher Education (now Bath Spa University) from 1994 to 1998. He taught Year 4, 5 and 6 children at Marshfield Primary School, near Chippenham, for 4 years where he won the Best New Teacher Award for the South West of England in 1999. He also gained an impressive record over 3 years for excellent Year 6 SATs results. He went on to teach Year 5 and 6 children at Westbury Leigh Primary School  before moving to Codford Primary School (now Wylye Valley Primary School), again teaching Years 5 and 6. In 2006, his Year 6 class achieved outstanding SATs results, placing them 10th in Wiltshire’s league table of over 190 primary schools. In the same year, Nick became an 'Advanced Skills Teacher'. Nick has 20 years' experience teaching English and maths to children of all abilities, and has been whole school maths co-ordinator in each of the 3 primary schools he has taught in. In January 2007, Nick set up his own private tuition business. Largely through word of mouth and personal recommendation, Nick's business grew and he now teaches 24 children in their homes each week. Nick lives in Warminster with his wife Rachael. He grew up in the town, attending Crockerton Primary School and later St Augustine's School in Trowbridge. He is well-known locally for his work in schools, and for his involvement with many local organisations and charities over the years. Before entering teaching at the age of 30, Nick had many jobs! He has been a DJ, estate agent, draughtsman, website designer and handyman to name but a few!

Lessons

All pupils begin with a trial lesson (normal fee applies). If, following this lesson, you and your child are happy, arrangements for a regular weekly lesson time  can be made. At busy times during the year, pupils waiting for a weekly lesson time to become available are kept on a list. They are then notified as soon as a lesson time becomes available, including any cancellations.

Commitment

You are not committed to having any number of lessons. You may be looking for some long or short-term help, depending on your child's needs. Your only commitment is to try and keep the lesson time that has been agreed each week. With children often waiting for lessons at busy times during the year, as much notice as possible is requested should you need to cancel a lesson in order that another child can have your lesson time.
